episode #13 Anne Nikitin

Anne Nikitin graces the podcast with her film music expertise. Recently, nominated for an Ivor Novello Award for her ‘American Animals’ score, a drama-documentary hybrid directed by Bart Layton, it’s pretty groundbreaking in it’s approach.
Another film on the agenda is Ursula Macfarlane’s ‘Untouchable: the Rise and Fall of Harvey Weinstein’. Trailers below.

We’ll of course discuss both these scores in detail, the subjects of the films themselves and how she approached each one.

I urge you to get these films on your watch list, they’re utterly brilliant in their own ways and of course the music is on point.

Anne generously gives advice on how to get into film composition, what work ethic is required and some possible routes in. It’s an inspiring chat, and very insightful.

Big thanks to Anne - she’s a busy, busy woman and I’m very thankful she surrendered a day to be part of the podcast. I had a blast and I know you’ll love hearing from her!

The world’s greatest instrument

The Casio VL Tone

The music making on this episode was one of my all time favourite’s. The piece we made is inherently hilarious - i think so anyways. We used a Casio VL Tone, a little keyboard that Anne got as a Christmas present when she was 8 years old! It’s monophonic, primitive and frankly amazing. So much fun to use as our only instrument to make a track out of.

If you wanted hearing Anne’s music in full form here are the tracks in the episode (those that have been released) on Spotify.
