episode #12 Galya Bisengalieva

Galya Bisengalieva (9 of 15).jpg

Galya has worked with some rather significant names in the music industry, arguably some of the most significant! Giants of minimalism like Steve Reich, Philip Glass and Terry Riley but also leading lights of new music like Mica Levi, Ipek Gorgun, Jonny Greenwood, Frank Ocean with Suzanne Ciani, Laurie Spiegel, Hildur Guðnadóttir, Sarah Davachi…i mean the list don’t stop. Many of these interactions are through the London Contemporary Orchestra in which she is the orchestral leader (I ask her about what that job involves in this episode)

In 2018 she released EP ONE and this year released EP TWO. She commissioned some utterly brilliant composers to write and collaborate with her Claire M Singer, Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch, Shiva Feshareki and CHAINES.

We chat about each of those tracks in some detail - the thinking behind them and the techniques they used to write this weird and wonderful music.

DON’T FORGET to listen to the music making part of this episode. We made a dark, disorientating, droney track. Galya and I had a blast making our track together. We used only her violin, a few FX pedals and some ableton productions. Follow us on the journey of the piece

Thanks so much to Galya for talking with me about her background and imaginative music. I’m sure you’re going to love hearing from her, hopefully learning a few things along the way. Thank you so much for checking out excuse the mess!!

Watch this great video of TULPAR - a track from Galya’s EP ONE. I was lucky enough to do production on this one.
